Phase I survey testing map showing the location of subsurface test units and areas where artifacts were recovered (above).

A Phase I survey is an intensive, systematic survey designed to locate and identify all significant cultural resources within the property.  In additional to all of the activities of a reconnaissance survey, a Phase I survey includes systematic subsurface testing throughout the project impact area.

This testing may be stratified to place more tests in areas of greater site potential.  In Florida, survey test units must be a minimum of 50 centimeters in diameter and one meter deep, subsurface conditions permitting; all tests are screened through ¼-inch hardware cloth.  A thorough and complete report of recommendations  and findings are prepared for DHR review.

SouthArc also offers a full range of archaeological, historical and environmental services related to the development of new or existing cellular communications towers.   We provide the complete range of 621 and 620 form preparation and submittal options for state and Tribal compliance.
