Reconnaissance Surveys

image10371Reconnaissance surveys are limited in nature, and are usually recommended for areas where there is a low potential for cultural resources. They are designed to delineate any previously identified resources within a project as well as areas which might contain archaeological or historical sites. These surveys include the same background research completed for feasibility studies, combined with a surface inspection of the project tract and limited subsurface testing in the areas most likely to contain archaeological or historical sites. The reconnaissance survey results in a brief report of the project findings and a recommendation as to whether further research is needed.
